HOUSTON, United States

American singer Taylor Swift announced Friday that she has regained control of all her music.

"I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening," Swift said in a handwritten letter posted on her website.

"I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made...now belongs...to me," she continued, making reference to her hit song You Belong With Me.

Swift also mentioned all of the other things that now belonged to her: "All my music videos. All my concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work."

Swift said she bought back her first six albums, which were originally released through Big Machine Records. The drama over the rights to her music has been ongoing for years after her former music manager, Scooter Braun, purchased and sold all her early catalog of songs, which controlled Swift's access to her own music and how the songs were used.

"To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it," said Swift. "All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy."

To circumvent violating the music rights, Swift had been re-recording and re-releasing her albums in an attempt to gain control of her music. Before Friday's announcement that she had purchased the rights to all of her music from their most recent owner, Shamrock Capital, Swift had re-recorded four of her first six albums.

In her letter, Swift credited her fans (281 million followers on Instagram) for being able to regain control of her entire body of work.

"To my fans, you know how important this has been to me - so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums calling them Taylor's Version," Swift wrote. "The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music."

"I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned it until now."
