US lawmaker unveils bill to rename DC metro ‘Trump Train, ‘WMAGA
Bill to block funding until Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is renamed Washington Metropolitan Authority for Greater Access

WASHINGTON
US Rep. Greg Steube on Thursday introduced a bill to rename the Washington, DC, subway system after President Donald Trump and "Washington Metropolitan Authority for Greater Access” (WMAGA).
The Make Autorail Great Again Act would block all federal funding to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) until it officially changes its name to the "WMAGA" and renames the Metrorail the “Trump Train.”
"WMATA has received billions in federal assistance over the years and continues to face operational, safety, and fiscal challenges," Steube said in a statement.
"In the spirit of DOGE, this bill demands accountability by conditioning federal funding on reforms that signal a cultural shift away from bureaucratic stagnation toward public-facing excellence and patriotism," he added.
Steube said WMATA takes $150 million a year in federal funds and delivers "nothing but delays, dysfunction, and decay."
WMATA announced on Wednesday an update to its fare payment system, allowing commuters to tap their debit or credit card for contactless payment.
