WASHINGTON
The White House and Pentagon are "aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar," a senior White House official said Monday after Iran said it launched a series of retaliatory attacks on the air base.
Iran's military said it "carried out destructive and powerful missile attack on Al Udeid base in Qatar in response to US aggression," a reference to a series of American strikes early Sunday morning on three key Iranian nuclear facilities.
Israeli Public broadcaster KAN estimated that roughly 10 Iranian missiles were fired at US bases in Qatar.
Al Udeid is the largest American military base in the Middle East. The sprawling facility serves as the in-region headquarters for US Central Command or CENTCOM.
