OpenAI announced on Monday an enhancement to its AI chatbot ChatGPT's web search functionality, intending to streamline online shopping by offering personalized product suggestions complete with images, reviews, and direct purchase links.
Since its launch last year, the generative AI leader's search tool has grown in popularity, becoming one of its most valued features, with over 1 billion searches recorded in the last week, according to the company.
The upgraded feature will be integrated into ChatGPT's default AI model, GPT-4o, and will be available globally to all users across all plans.
When users ask targeted questions about products, they will receive customized product suggestions from categories such as fashion, beauty, electronics, and home goods.
This development allows OpenAI to compete with search engines, particularly Google.
