Australia again urges citizens to leave Iran

ISTANBUL

Australia on Monday again urged its citizens to leave Iran “if it is safe to do so” as ceasefire between Tehran and Israel continues to hold.

“International airports in eastern Iran including Mashhad are currently operational and limited departure options are becoming available,” the Foreign Ministry said in its latest update posted on X.

The Australian government “is securing a limited number of seats on commercial flights departing Iran for those who require assistance,” the ministry said, adding: “Airport operations continue to change at short notice and we are monitoring the situation closely.”

Last week, Canberra said the situation in the region “is constantly changing.”

“A ceasefire is currently in place. There continues to be a risk of further military conflict. And the security situation could get worse with little notice,” it said.

A conflict between Israel and Iran erupted on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, drawing relations from Iran.

The US joined the war and bombed Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities.

The 12-day war came to a halt under a US-sponsored ceasefire that took effect on June 24.
