China says continuation of conflict in Gaza not in interest of any party
'Neither the Israelis nor Palestinians should become targets of armed attacks or collective punishment,' Foreign Ministry spokesperson tells news briefing

ISTANBUL
As international pressure increases on Israel to end its offensive in the Gaza Strip, China on Wednesday said the continuation of the conflict in Gaza is not in interest of any party.
“On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, China has all along stood on the side of fairness and justice,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a news conference in Beijing, responding to a question regarding condemnation of Hamas by its envoy in Israel over the Oct. 7, 2023 by the Palestinian resistance group.
“The Gaza conflict has been dragging on for over a year and half and created a severe humanitarian crisis. It is in no one’s interest to let it continue,” Mao said.
"Neither the Israelis nor Palestinians should become targets of armed attacks or collective punishment. Violence for violence will only lead to an endless cycle of revenge, and it is the civilians on both sides who will continue to suffer and bear the toll."
China, she added, will continue working relentlessly with the international community for a ceasefire and the de-escalation of the humanitarian situation.
Israel abandoned a January ceasefire with Hamas in March, and has intensified its offensive in Gaza in recent days, expanding ground operations and carrying out massive airstrikes.
Overall, it has killed more than 53,000 people, most of them women and children, in the enclave since October 2023.
Until Monday, Israel had also not allowed any food, aid, medicines or fuel to enter Gaza for more than two months.
