Turkish foreign minister discusses regional developments with Chinese counterpart

ANKARA / ISTANBUL

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Tuesday spoke with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi about efforts to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

In a phone call, the two foreign ministers reviewed regional developments and efforts to reduce hostilities between Israel and Iran.

Fidan decried the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza and condemned the ongoing Israeli genocide, the sources said.

Both reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution as the only viable path for resolving the Israel-Palestine issue.

They also discussed bilateral political and economic ties, expressing a mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade and investment.

According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement, Wang said that Israel and the US attacked Iran citing “possible future threats,” which violated international law and Iran's sovereignty, setting a “bad precedent and threatening the international nuclear non-proliferation system.”

Underscoring that the Palestinian issue remains the core of the Middle East issue, he said that the implementation of the "two-state solution" is necessary to achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

He added that China encourages all parties to speak with one voice in opposing war, supporting peace, and advocating for the reduction of tensions.

“It is expected that Turkey will continue to play an active role in promoting regional peace and stability,” Wang said.
