​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Türkiye's electricity production increased by around 3.3% in March 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, the latest data from the country's energy watchdog showed on Thursday.
Total electricity production rose to around 26.17 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in March 2024, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for March 2024.
The country produced electricity from several sources: 26% from hydroelectricity, 23.6% from imported coal, 18.4% from natural gas, 13.3% from lignite and 8.1% from wind.
Geothermal, biomass, solar power, hard coal, asphaltite, and fuel oil generated the remaining share.
Electricity consumption this March also increased to around 21.30 million MWh, marking a 5.8% rise compared to the same month the previous year.
Installed electricity capacity rose by around 1% to 96,232 megawatts in March 2024, relative to March 2023.
Natural gas power plants comprised 25.8% of electricity installed capacity, while hydropower and wind plants accounted for 24.6% and 12.4%, respectively.
Imported coal, lignite, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, solar power, hard coal, asphaltite, fuel oil, naphtha, LNG and diesel also contributed to the installed capacity.
