Turkey took new measures to increase energy efficiency in households with new regulationsÌýfrom the ministry of science, industry and technology.
According to the new regulation, labels showing energy efficiency classification will become mandatory for vacuum cleaners and ovens and will be classified on a scale from A to GÌýin accordance with EU standards.Ìý
The vacuum cleaners in Turkey will not consume more than 62 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and ovens that are below a “Câ€� category in energyÌýefficiency will not be sold after Jul. 1Ìý2015.
“Aâ€� category - the highest energy efficiency classification,Ìýwill be obligatory for ovensÌýafter 20 Feb. 2019.
Turkey aims to reduce its energy import bill and itsÌýbudget deficit by taking measures to ensure energy efficiency in household appliances. In addition, such environmentally-friendly products will cut emissions.
Efficiency rules for washing machines, dishwashers and fridges are already in placeÌýin Turkey. According to the 2015-2019 Energy Strategic Plan, which was announced in December, raising electricity saving awareness among the public will have a crucial role in widelyÌýextending Turkey’s energy efficiency policy.
The new regulations will take effect after July and September this year to give a transition period for the producers.Ìý
