Turkey's Hareket sets sights on Ukraine's power market

- Hareket Heavy Lifting & Project Transportation Co. is already present in Ukraine to participate in its largest wind farm

Hareket Heavy Lifting and Project Transportation Co. is looking to participate in Ukraine's electricity infrastructure tenders in the coming decade to expand its presence in the country.

The first roadshow abroad of Ukraine鈥檚 national power company Ukrenergo, in partnership with International Turkish Businessmen鈥檚 Association (TUID), showcased investment opportunities in Ukraine at the event held last week in Ankara, where Hareket Heavy Lifting and Project Transportation Co. attended.

The company鈥檚 general manager, Engin Kuzucu told Anadolu Agency on Thursday that they want to expand their projects in the country in which they already have a substantial presence.

"Ukraine offers many advantages for us because they offer many renewable subsidies, which will give us more business opportunities," he explained.

The company鈥檚 joint project with Germany鈥檚 Nordex Group is to supply and build the largest wind farm in the country, the Syvash wind farm located in Kherson in southern Ukraine.

The farm, valued at 鈧7 million, will see the mounting of 64 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 245.7 megawatts (MW) to produce 840,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity per year.

鈥淲hen the project is completed, it will supply the needs of 100,000 households,鈥 Haraket鈥檚 Strategic Planning Executive Husamettin Aldatmaz said.

Hareket Heavy Lifting and Project Transportation Co., which specializes in heavy lifting and project transportation, is a strong local player supplying 40% of wind power plants in Turkey.

However, the company has set its sights further afield and has started to realize more than half of its operations in Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Dubai and Oman, as well as Ukraine.

Kuzucu explained that the company in the past worked abroad as subcontractors for Turkish companies, but now works as subcontractors for Korean, Japanese and American companies.

Aldatmaz acknowledged the big global players in Ukraine, but said that Turkish companies, like Hareket, are capable of participating in large projects.

鈥淥ur trade volume is around 鈧40 million from which international operations constitute 60%,鈥 he said.

鈥淲e want to be involved as much as we can in electricity infrastructure tender projects worth $3 billion, which Ukraine will offer over the coming decade,鈥 he concluded.
