Vattenfall brings subsidiaries under one name

- Dutch subsidiary name change motivated by need to have one name and message of fossil-free living within one generation

Vattenfall's Dutch subsidiary Nuon changed its name to Vattenfall to unite its brand in Europe, according to an official announcement on Thursday.

Nuon, a utility company that provides electricity, gas, and heat in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, has been an integrated part of Vattenfall since 2009.

The name change from Nuon to Vattenfall will take place gradually starting Thursday, Oct. 4. For customers in the Netherlands the first changes will be visible at the beginning of 2019.

The company declared that its strategy is to make fossil-free living possible within one generation.

"The name change is done in order to invest in the company鈥檚 future by gaining strengths, efficiency and scale to better serve the customers to achieve this goal," Vattenfall said.

"This is a natural step and with one name and one message, we are more effective strategically and financially. We have been working as one for nearly a decade and now it is time to be one also externally," said Magnus Hall, CEO of Vattenfall.

Vattenfall has a presence in seven markets; Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, the U.K., Finland and France. Up until the Oct. 4 announcement, all these markets traded under the company name Vattenfall with the exception of the Netherlands.
