Azerbaijan and Vietnam on Wednesday signed a joint declaration to form a strategic partnership during high-level talks in Baku, with top leaders promising to expand cooperation in energy, trade, defense, and education, according to Azerbaijan's state news agency, AZERTAC.

Following his meeting with Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said their discussions covered key areas, including “energy, economy, culture, transport, and education, adding that the agreements “will be transformed into concrete projects.

“The documents signed in the field of energy and the exchanges we have conducted give reason to say that in the near future we will further expand our cooperation in this area, Aliyev was quoted by the news agency as saying.

To Lam, for his part, emphasized the significance of his visit, underlining that both countries “have achieved good results in political, diplomatic, energy, defense, trade and other areas.

“This opens a new era, a new page in the history of relations between our countries, he said, expressing confidence that their “advantages will be used to foster bilateral development.

Aliyev also highlighted mutual support within the Non-Aligned Movement, which Azerbaijan chaired for four years, and stressed the importance of international law and respect for territorial integrity in resolving disputes.
