Gazprom's gas exports to Europe to see 2.9% yearly rise

- Gazprom receives requests from Europe for additional gas volumes from 2020 onwards, company official says

Alexander Medvedev, deputy chief executive officer of Russia鈥檚 top gas producer confirmed Monday that Gazprom's gas exports to Europe would exceed 200 billion cubic meters in 2018, marking a 2.9 percent increase from 2017.

In 2017, Gazprom delivered 194.4 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe, equivalent to an 8.4 percent rise from a year earlier.

Medvedev said that Gazprom has received requests from Europe for additional gas volumes from 2020 onwards.

However, it is not only Europe that Gazprom is set to increase trade with as he confirmed that negotiations with China on the 鈥榃estern Route鈥 of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline would be determined in the near future at the highest level.

"I can say that talks on the 鈥楩ar Eastern鈥 route are on schedule," he said.

The Power of Siberia gas pipeline will pump natural gas from the giant Chayanda oil and gas condensate deposit in Yakutia and the Kovykta gas condensate field in the Irkutsk Region in Eastern Siberia to deliver gas to the domestic market and further on for exports to China.

The so-called 鈥楨astern Route鈥 targets the supply of 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China鈥檚 eastern regions annually within 30 years to be launched at the end of 2019.

The Western route also aims to send 30 billion cubic meters of gas per annum to China.
