Denmark's Orsted, formerly known as Dong Energy, signed a 15-year agreement with Nestle to sell green power from the Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm, the company announced late on Tuesday.
The UK subsidiary of the world's largest food and beverage company, Nestle, will buy 31 megawatts of output from the offshore wind farm's total capacity of 573 megawatts.
From May 1, 2020, Nestle UK will start purchasing 125 gigawatt-hours of green power per year to cover 50% of its power consumption.
"I'm incredibly proud that at Nestle we are doing the right thing to play our part in reducing climate change. With our partnership with Orsted we are now able to cover 100 % of our electricity from wind power, another huge milestone in our efforts to become a sustainable business," said Stefano Agostini, CEO for Nestle UK and Ireland.
Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm is one of the newest operational wind farms in the UK that was commissioned in 2018.
It is capable of generating up to 573 megawatts of green electricity from its 91 Siemens Gamesa six-megawatt wind turbines.
