Trump's approval rating lowest in past year: poll

- President's job approval rating slipping since address to build wall, says Rasmussen

A poll published Monday shows U.S. President Donald Trump with the lowest approval rating in roughly a year.

A Rasmussen survey indicated 43 percent of likely voters approved of the president鈥檚 job performance lately -- slightly above his lowest mark of 42 percent last January.

"The president鈥檚 overall job approval rating has been falling since his Oval Office address last week calling for enhanced border security and the building of a wall to help stop illegal immigration," Rasmussen said in a press release.

The poll also found 55 percent of voters disapproved of Trump, with 46 percent strongly disapproving.

Rasmussen has previously shown Trump favorably in the polls, compared to other, and the president used them to show his high approval rating.

Trump cited a Rasmussen daily poll last April when his approval rating was at 51 percent.

"Rasmussen just came out at 51% Approval despite the Fake News Media. They were one of the three most accurate on Election Day. Just about the most inaccurate were CNN and ABC News/Washington Post, and they haven鈥檛 changed (get new pollsters). Much of the media is a Scam!" Trump tweeted.

The Rasmussen poll's daily results are based on telephone surveys of 500 likely voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
