A total of nine companies secured 拢26 million of government funding to advance the rollout of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in the U.K., the government announced on Thursday.
The country's largest carbon capture project to date, Tata Chemicals Europe鈥檚 plant, is one of the recipients given 拢4.2 million towards the construction.
The facility, when operational by 2021, will remove 40,000 tonnes of carbon emission from the atmosphere each year, the equivalent of 22,000 cars.
Between 拢170,000 and 拢7 million has been assigned to the selected projects as part of two programs - the 拢20 million Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCUD) program and the 拢24 million Call for CCUS Innovation program.
Drax 鈥� Fuel Cell Biogenic Carbon Capture Demonstration will be given 拢500,000 and Origen Power 鈥� Oxy-Fuelled Flash Calciner Project will receive 拢249,000 under the CCUD program along with Tata Chemicals Europe鈥檚 plant.
The remaining six projects are set to receive funding under the CCUS Innovation program.
