Qatar’s state-owned energy company Qatar Petroleum has changed its name to QatarEnergy to reflect the country's emphasis on global LNG exports, the Qatari energy minister announced Monday.
The company’s new slogan will be "Your Energy Transition Partner," Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi announced in a video posted on social media.
He said the move represents a new strategy emphasizing energy efficiency and environmentally-friendly technologies like CO2 sequestration.
One of the world's leading LNG suppliers, Qatar, exported 77.13 million tonnes (Mt) last year, slightly behind Australia's export total of 77.77 Mt, according to the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers.
Al-Kaabi also said his country was unwilling to rejoin the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) as he said that “attempting to influence global oil prices does not fit with the country's policy.
A member of OPEC since 1961, Qatar left the group in late 2018 as it intends to focus on natural gas as its main export.
