聽Estonia鈥檚聽biggest port authority in聽Tallinn聽signed contracts聽on Tuesday聽for the construction of four new car-passenger ferry boats whose engines can run on liquefied natural gas.
The contracts were signed with Poland鈥檚 Remontowa Shipbuilding and Turkey鈥檚 Sefine Shipyard shipbuilding facilities, according to the Port of Tallinn鈥檚 press release.
New ferry boats will be constructed in Gdansk聽in the northern city of Poland聽and聽in the聽northwestern city of聽Yalova in聽Turkey, and聽Norwegian company LMG Marin will design the new ferry boats.
"The concluded contracts provide assurance to the Estonian people that high-quality connections on the lines between the mainland and the islands, by聽the new ferries conforming聽to contemporary requirements, will be guaranteed聽in autumn 2016,"聽said Remo Holsmer, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Port of Tallinn.
The main engines of the ships will be聽designed to be converted to聽engines running on liquefied natural gas.
