Turkey鈥檚 eleventh biggest city of Kocaeli became leader in聽storage capacity of liquefied petroleum gas, in聽Turkey,聽according to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority on Thursday.
Kocaeli's聽storage capacity of 195,000 cubic meters of LPG is 28 times more capacity than capital Ankara and 11 times more than the country's biggest city of Istanbul.聽聽Ankara has only 7,000 in storage and Istanbul has 17,000 cubic meters of LPG storage capacity.聽
Kocaeli,聽with a population of聽around 1.5 million, borders the聽Marmara Sea to the west, the Black Sea to the north and is the eastern neighbor of Istanbul.
This announcement was the first time that the energy authority gave聽rankings for LPG storage capacities.
- $31 million given in fines to Turkish LPG sector
Turkey's聽LPG sector has been given 212 fines worth 84 million Turkish liras (US$31 million) in 2014. The reasons for the fines include聽illegally filling up cylinders with聽LPG, hiring unlicensed personnel and the absence of managers at petrol station premises.
