The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Norwegian energy giant Statoil a drilling permit for oil exploration in a well for the North Sea, the Directorate announced late on Tuesday.
According to the written statement of the directorate, the well, located about five kilometres north of the Njord field, will be drilled from the Songa Delta drilling rig facility.
Statoil is the operator with an ownership interest of 20 percent, the statement revealed. Other licensees include Engie E&P Norge with a 40 percent interest, DEA Norge with a 30 percent share, Faroe Petroleum Norge with a 7.5 percent share and VNG Norge with 2.5 percent.
Oil production started in Njord field located in the north of Norway in 1997.
