Turkey's energy import bill decreased by 2.5% to $3.59 billion in May compared to the same month of 2018, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Friday.
The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill, including energy and other items, reached $17.81 billion in May, with energy accounting for over 20%.
While the overall energy import bill fell last month, the country increased its crude oil purchases.
Turkey imported approximately 2.67 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 1.80 million tons during the same period in 2018.
The country's crude oil imports showed a 48.2% rise over the same period compared to May 2018.
