The Turkish capital Ankara is saving聽around 90 million Turkish lira聽($30 million)聽per year thanks to switching from public buses running on diesel to those running on聽compressed natural gas, CNG.
Ankara has been using CNG buses for more than seven聽years and has a fleet of聽1,289 CNG buses for public transportation representing聽76 percent of the city's total public buses.
According to sources from Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, CNG聽has 76 percent聽lower carbon emissions than conventional fuels and is more economical to run than either聽oil or聽gasoline.
According to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, a聽CNG bus saves 71 thousand Turkish lira聽($23.8 thousand)聽per year and with the maximum capacity use of聽CNG buses, it creates a 90 million Turkish lira聽saving per annum.
