National Trust to invest £30 million in UK renewables

U.K.'s National TrustÌýplans to investÌý£30 million ($47 million)Ìýin country's renewable energy towards the country's 2020 targets, organization announced Monday.

"We’re making our biggest ever investment in renewable energy to heat and power more of the historic places we look after," saidÌýthe organization's press release.

TheÌýinvestment is important to aid in reaching the renewable targets,Ìýthe organizationÌýsaid.

U.K. aimsÌýtoÌýreduce reliance on fossil fuels, cut energy usage by 20 percent and source 50 percent of country'sÌýenergy from renewable sourcesÌýby 2020.

AÌý200 kilowatt lake source heating projectÌýwhich will help saveÌý68 tonnes of CO2 per year and aÌý250 kilowatt hydro scheme which willÌýprovideÌýan income stream to support conservation work, are among projects to receive funding.

Additionally, two biomass boilers atÌýUpton HouseÌýin Warwickshire will be used to heat the mansion and other areas, saving an estimated 55 tonnes of CO2 per year.
