Wales is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 95% and reaching net zero emissions no later than 2050, Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs Lesley Griffiths said on Tuesday.
The Welsh Government will bring regulations to the National Assembly next year to amend the existing 2050 target and amend Wales鈥 interim targets and carbon budgets as necessary.
"We are committed to delivering the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions required to make our contribution to a net zero target for the UK," Griffiths said.
The Committee on Climate Change, the non-departmental advisory body, recommended reducing emissions for countries in the U.K. on May 2.
All U.K. governments need to work more closely to reduce emissions, Griffiths said and added that he requested a meeting with U.K. and Scottish counterparts to discuss "how we will rise to the challenge of climate change together."
