The European Parliament鈥檚 (EP) Employment and Social Affairs Committee will vote on a series of contingency measures on Tuesday to safeguard the social security entitlements for EU and U.K. citizens in case of a no-deal Brexit.
聽An informal deal reached between EP and Council negotiators on legislation to ensure that the rights and obligations of copyright law also apply to the Internet will be up for a vote by the Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday.
The Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance, set up by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) following continued media revelations via Luxleaks, the Panama Papers, Football Leaks and the Paradise Papers, will approve its final findings and recommendations. This follows a 12-month inquiry, including 18 hearings and 10 meetings with finance ministers, European Commissioners, other authorities and four fact-finding missions. A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
The EP will host the opening of the 7th World Congress Against the Death Penalty. The event will bring together MEPs, high-level guests, including EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini and Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Didier Reynders, and various representatives of the abolishment movement on Wednesday.
EP President Antonio Tajani will be in Washington on Wednesday to meet U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, the Organization of American States Secretary General Luis Almagro, and U.S. Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In the context of the Transatlantic Dialogue, he will meet with Members of Congress and MEPs.聽
European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen will be in Istanbul on Thursday to co-chair the EU-Turkey High-Level Economic Dialogue. The European Commissioner on Transport Violeta Bulc will also attend the event. They are expected to discuss updating the Customs Union, and trade and transport-related subjects.
The EP will release the second set of seat projections for the composition of the next (9th) European Parliament on Friday. The data is based on a selection of polls conducted by national polling institutes in the member states.
