- Democracy platform of Turkey meeting in Brussels
Members of a civil society organization, the Democracy Platform of Turkey, will visit Brussels on Monday and Tuesday to meet with various political figures in Brussels to explain the July 15 coup attempt.
- Emissions
The European Parliament's inquiry into emission measurements in the car industry will continue its work. On Monday and Thursday hearings from Fiat/Chrysler Chief Technical Officer Harald Wester, German Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt and Lower Saxony's Economy, Labor and Transport Minister Olaf Lies will be observed.
-Foreign Affairs Council
Foreign Affairs Council will meet in Luxemburg on Monday. The Foreign ministers of 28 EU member states will discuss Syria, EU-Tunisia relations and migration and take stock of EU actions and priorities in this area.
-General Affairs Council
General Affairs Council will meet on Tuesday in Luxemburg to conclude preparations by discussing draft conclusions for the European Council on Oct. 20-21.
-The Tripartite Social Summit for Growth and Employment
The Tripartite Social Summit for Growth and Employment, which will be held on Wednesday before the October European Council, will focus on "Addressing Europe's common challenges: generating growth, creating jobs and ensuring fairness."
The Tripartite Social Summit is a forum for dialogue between the EU institutions at presidential level and the European social partners at top management level. The summit is co-chaired by the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and the Head of State or Government of the rotating presidency; this time the latter is the Slovak Prime Minister. Employers are represented by Business Europe, European Center of Employers and Enterprises providing Public Services (CEEP) and the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME). Trade unions are represented by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
- EU Leaders Summit
The European Council known as the EU Leaders Summit will take place in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
The European Council will discuss the latest developments and progress on its comprehensive approach and set out the necessary orientations.
Debates will focus on protecting external borders, tackling migratory flows along the Central Mediterranean route, and maintaining and tightening control of the Eastern Mediterranean route.
Leaders will exchange views on trade issues and will look at key files and focus on the future of the EU's trade policy. In particular, they will reiterate the EU's commitment to a trade policy benefitting from open markets and heeding citizens' concerns. Additionally, they will assess the state of play of on-going free trade agreement negotiations with key partners, discuss the modernization of Trade Defense Instruments, which aim to tackle unfair trade practices.
Furthermore, the European Council will hold a policy debate on relations with Russia.
