-U.S. sanctions remain key topic of discussion

The strongest reaction to the new Russia sanctions of U.S. came from Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev last week.

鈥淭he U.S. has started a fully-pledged trade war with Russia and there is no possibility left for better relations between our countries,鈥 the Russian PM said in his statement.

Adding that the U.S. President Donald Trump showed weakness by letting the U.S. Congress decide the country鈥檚 policy towards Russia, Medvedev said that Russia would cope with the new round of sanctions.

Trump signed the new round of sanctions against Russia last week, which expanded the list of sanctions against Russian finance and energy sector players.

Russia also took retaliatory steps and issued the U.S. with a request to reduce their diplomatic staff in Russia to 455- the same number of Russian diplomatic personnel in the U.S.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday that the U.S. would take a further step against Russia鈥檚 latest decision over the reduction of U.S. diplomatic staff in Russia. He said the U.S. would also take a similar stance, which will be decided upon on Sept. 1.

Russian experts, who spoke to Anadolu Agency, underlined that the new round of sanctions could have serious effects on the Russian economy, which is still trying to recover from an economic crisis.

Konstantin Korishchenko, former deputy chairman of the Russian Central Bank, said that sanctions would reduce the already low amount of foreign investments in Russia. The expert also stressed that due to the steps that Russia will have to take against U.S. sanctions; Russia would have to postpone the much-needed reforms for the economy.
