KYIV, Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa met Saturday in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.
“We agreed to begin talks on a bilateral Ukrainian-Japanese agreement on security guarantees following the G7 Declaration this summer,” Zelenskyy said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I am grateful to Japan for remaining our key partner in Asia and supporting Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
Yoshimasa’s visit is noteworthy as it marks his first trip to the country since the commencement of the Russia-Ukraine war in February last year.
