Germany concerned over Iranian threat to block Strait of Hormuz
We are ‘monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz very closely, chancellery spokesman Stefan Kornelius tells reporters in Berlin

BERLIN
Germany on Monday expressed concern over Iranian threats to block the Strait of Hormuz, a vital trade route for the world’s oil and gas supply.
“We naturally view the threats being made with enormous concern, and I believe that what the (German) Foreign Minister and the E3 heads of government have expressed still holds true: all sides should now refrain from taking steps that could escalate the situation,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Christian Wagner told journalists in Berlin.
Meanwhile, German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said Berlin is “monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz very closely.”
The Iranian parliament has approved a bill to close the Strait of Hormuz to naval traffic following US air strikes on three nuclear facilities, a senior lawmaker said on Sunday.
“The parliament has reached the conclusion that the Strait of Hormuz should be closed,” Major General Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of the parliament’s National Security Commission, said in statements carried by the state-run Press TV.
The final decision in this regard lies with the Supreme National Security Council,” Kowsari added. The Supreme National Security Council serves as Iran’s highest security authority.
Israel on June 13 launched airstrikes on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.
The US struck Iran's three main nuclear sites early Sunday, claiming severe damage.
