UK says US strikes on nuclear facilities aim 'to alleviate the threat'
'We urge Iran to show restraint and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis,' says British foreign secretary

LONDON
US strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, aims to "alleviate the threat that would pose to the global community," the British foreign secretary said Sunday.
"Iran must never have a nuclear weapon. The US has taken action to alleviate the threat that would pose to the global community," David Lammy wrote in a post on X.
He noted that the UK did not participate in these strikes that targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities.
For his part, UK Defense Secretary John Healey said the safety of UK personnel and bases is his "top priority."
"Force protection is at its highest level and we deployed additional jets this week," he wrote on X.
The foreign secretary added: "We urge Iran to show restraint and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis."
The situation in the region further deteriorated after US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that American forces carried out "very successful" airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, amid growing fears of a broader conflict in the region.
Following the US strikes, Iran called on the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to condemn the US aggression and to hold accountable those who violate international law.
Hostilities broke out on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.
Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
