Iranian president warns stronger response if Israeli attacks persist

ISTANBUL

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday said continued attacks by Israel will be met with stronger, more decisive response, as he spoke over phone with Pakistani Premier Shehbaz Shariff.

Expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s support to Iran, Pezeshkian said Israel, backed by the US and certain Western countries, continues to violate all norms of international law.

About nuclear talks with Washington, Pezeshkian said the developments reveal the duplicity and unreliability of the US administration. The next round of talks scheduled for Sunday has been called off.

Sharif said Islamabad "resolutely" stands with Iran in the wake of Israeli attacks, his office said.

Condemning the attacks "that violated Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said Tehran has "the right to self-defense, as provided under Article 51 of the UN Charter."

The Pakistani premier called "Israel’s blatant provocations and adventurism" "a grave threat to regional and global peace and stability," and also "strongly condemned" Israel’s "unabated genocidal campaign against the valiant Palestinians."

Sharif called on the international community and the UN to take "urgent and credible steps to put an end to Israel’s aggressive behavior and its illegal actions."

Israel bombed Iran’s atomic facilities and killed some of its top commanders and nuclear scientists early Friday. It has continued its attacks since then, while Iran also launched retaliatory strikes.
