The Israeli army announced Tuesday that it has intercepted four Iranian drones, just hours before a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran is expected to take effect.
In a statement, the army said: “The Israeli Air Force intercepted four drones launched from Iran.”
According to the statement, three of the drones were intercepted before entering Israeli territory, while another was shot down in the southern Golan Heights.
“Following warnings received regarding drone infiltration in the southern Golan Heights, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a drone launched from Iran,” the army said, adding “the Air Force also recently intercepted three other drones launched from Iran before they entered Israeli territory.”
The incident comes amid anticipation of a comprehensive ceasefire agreement announced by US President Donald Trump, who said both sides had agreed to halt hostilities following 12 days of conflict.
Iran has not issued an immediate response to the drone interceptions.
The ceasefire deal, reportedly mediated by Qatar, is expected to come into effect in the coming hours, although Iranian and Israeli officials have so far declined to publicly confirm the agreement.
