The Bureau of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People on Friday called for immediate and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza as Israel's military operation passed more than 600 days, citing "widespread and engineered deprivation and mass displacement."

In a statement, the committee expressed "grave concern over the escalating casualties, worsening humanitarian emergency, catastrophic devastation and destruction and continued obstruction of life-saving assistance to the Palestinian people."

Describing the conditions in Gaza as "the cruelest phase" of the conflict, the committee echoed UN relief chief Tom Fletcher's call for concrete solutions: "When you face starvation, you don't need air drops and floating piers, you need roads open, convoys moving, and a ceasefire that lasts."

"The situation has left noted civilians enduring unbearable suffering and widespread and engineered deprivation and mass displacement," the statement added.

Strongly rejecting the Israel and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the committee called it "an attempt to circumvent the UN and its agencies on the ground, foremost UNRWA (UN agency for Palestinian refugees)," adding that it "fails the test of the humanitarian principles."

The statement also cited the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' (OCHA) description of GHF's approach on Gazans as "engineered scarcity" and "a policy of deprivation by design."

It condemned the destruction of Gaza's infrastructure and housing and warned of "a profound erosion of the human dignity of the Palestinian people," and criticized Israel for ignoring the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures.

"The somber milestone must be a moment of reckoning and moral clarity," the committee said, urging UN member states to act to ensure "immediate, unimpeded and full humanitarian access" and an "immediate and permanent ceasefire."
