Anadolu Ajansı, as Türkiye's most established news agency, has taken a proactive approach to address the challenges faced by press publishers due to the digitalization. As digitalization becomes increasingly prevalent, news content is now largely accessed via digital platforms. Digital platforms often dominate the market, reaping the advertising revenue generated by content created by media outlets, leaving content creators with diminishing control over their work. This shift has created new areas of competition and raised significant issues, particularly concerning the unauthorized commercial use of journalists' hard-earned content.
This book, Copyright in News: A Report for Türkiye, is the result of extensive efforts. It offers a roadmap for press publishers to demand payment for their news content and aims to solve the copyright issues exacerbated by digitalization. We hope this work will guide the drafting of future regulations in Türkiye and support a fair and balanced media landscape.
