Trump says deal is 'very possible' with Harvard University in near future

WASHINGTON

US President Donald Trump suggested Friday that a major settlement may soon be reached with Harvard University.

"We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so," Trump said on social media.

In unprecedented moves, in recent months the administration has pulled $3 billion in funding and threatened to remove Harvard's tax-exempt status, citing campus protests in support of Palestine and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

"They have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right. If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be ‘mindbogglingly’ HISTORIC, and very good for our Country," Trump said.

Earlier this month, Trump signed a proclamation to restrict foreign student visas at the Ivy League school.

Later, a US federal judge temporarily halted Trump’s attempt to block visas, following a legal challenge filed by the university.
