Trump says he would 'love' if Fed chair resigned

WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump said Friday that he would "love" if Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell resigned.
"I'd love him to resign if he wanted to, he's done lousy job," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
"You have a guy in there that, with the stroke of a pen, could lower interest rates and save us hundreds of billions of dollars a year. But he's a stupid person," he said.
He said Powell is making a "mistake" by not lowering interest rates.
"We have a guy that's just a stubborn mule and a stupid person that is making a big mistake," he added.
Noting that Powell is "not good" for the country, Trump said: "I think we should be paying 1% right now, and we're paying more because we have a guy who suffers from, I think, Trump Derangement Syndrome."
Trump has repeatedly demanded that the Fed cut interest rates, citing moves by the European central banks and warned that delays could stall the US economy.
