HAMILTON, Canada

US President Donald Trump on Thursday signed three separate resolutions, including one that blocks California's mandate to gradually phase out gas-powered vehicles by 2035.

"We officially rescue the US auto industry from destruction by terminating California Electric Vehicle mandate once and for all," Trump said after signing the bill.

Arguing that people "should be given the option- buy the electric car, buy a gasoline-powered car, buy a hybrid," Trump stated that "part of the one, big, beautiful bill will also further slash the funding for the Green New Scam."

"It's the greatest scam in history," he said, claiming that the bill is saving "American taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars."

Trump also said he likes "Tesla" and other electric vehicles, but likes gas-powered vehicles as well.

Commenting on his recent row with billionaire businessman and Tesla owner Elon Musk, Trump stated that Musk "actually" likes him and that "he never had a problem."

"We're going to abolish the EV mandate. And Elon still endorsed," Trump said, adding that Musk did not take the matter personally and had said he would not object as long as the same rules applied to everyone.

"It's very interesting answer. I thought it was a very honest answer," Trump noted.

Trump added that he currently has no issues with Musk, but said he found some of Musk's comments on social media after leaving office to be "a little bit strange."

"I don't know why," he added.

The public feud between Trump and Musk erupted last week after the president criticized the billionaire for opposing a Republican policy proposal because of its projected impact on the deficit. The conflict quickly escalated, causing backlash in Congress and affecting Tesla's stock.

Musk later said he regretted some of his social media posts he made about Trump last week.
