ISTANBUL

China on Friday urged Group of Seven (G7) nations against foreign interference as the bloc meets for its annual summit in Canada, state media reported.

“We urge the G7 to recognize the global trend, stop interfering in other countries’ internal affairs, stop undermining the development of other nations, and stop manipulating China-related issues,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing.

The G7 leaders are meeting in Alberta, Canada between Sunday and Tuesday, when the bloc also marks 50th anniversary of since first summit.

Spokesman Lin said the G7 should "do more to promote unity and cooperation within the international community.”

Lin reminded the G7 has “long adhered to a Cold War mentality and ideological bias, forming exclusive ‘small circles’ that provoke conflict and camp confrontation.”

“Such actions run counter to the trend of the times, are unpopular, and are doomed to fail,” he said.
