ISTANBUL

The US on Monday announced visa restrictions targeting owners and senior officials of Indian travel agencies accused of facilitating "illegal immigration."

Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the US State Department, said the action aims to hold accountable those “knowingly” involved in illegal immigration and human smuggling operations.

She emphasized that the US embassy and consulates in India are actively working to identify individuals and agencies engaged in these activities.

“We will continue to take steps to impose visa restrictions against owners, executives, and senior officials of travel agencies to cut off alien smuggling networks,” Bruce said, stressing that US immigration policy seeks to deter unlawful migration and punish those who violate its laws.

The move comes as the Donald Trump administration maintains a hardline stance on immigration and intensifies efforts to curb illegal border crossings.

There was no immediate response from Indian authorities or travel agencies in connection with the move.
