King Harald V of Norway will preside over the opening ceremony of Norway鈥檚 third largest oil field, Johan Sverdrup, on Jan. 7, Equinor reported on Monday.
Equinor said that Norway鈥檚 Prime Minister Erna Solberg and the Minister of Petroleum and Energy Kjell-Borge Freiberg would also attend the opening ceremony of the offshore facility in the North Sea.
The facility will also host guests and personnel of Equinor and partners Lundin Norway, Petoro, Aker BP and Total.
Production at the giant field, that is considered a technological triumph and a milestone for the Norwegian oil industry, started on Oct. 5 this year.
Already producing 350,000 barrels per day, it is expected to increase production to 440,000 barrels per day during Phase 1 of its operations.
Phase 2 is expected to see daily production rise to 660,000 barrels after 2022.
