PNE Group was awarded two wind projects with a total nominal capacity of 174 megawatts (MW) in Poland's first onshore wind tender, the German company announced Monday.
The Cuxhaven-based group will erect 14 wind turbines for the 42-MW Barwice wind farm and another 39 turbines for the 132-MW Jasna farm. Both facilities are located in northern Poland and have been developed by subsidiary WKN, according to a statement from PNE.
Construction of the wind farms is scheduled to begin in the first half of next year, while completion and start of operations are scheduled for 2019 and 2020, respectively.
According to the statement, the PNE Group is planning further wind farm projects in Poland and preparing for future tenders.
WKN has been active in project development in Poland since 2008 through the Polish-German venture Sevivon based in Koschalin and Gdansk, it said.
Markus Lesser, CEO of PNE AG, described the win as a "great success" for the company.
"Our intensive and multi-year project development in Poland is now paying off. The internationalization of our core business has taken another major step forward," he said.
"In addition to our successful developments in France, Sweden and the U.S., the market for wind energy in Poland is now also developing extremely well for us," he added.
With two brands PNE and WKN, the PNE Group is a major wind farm developer in Germany and has operations in Europe, South Africa and North America. The company also has offices in the U.S., Romania and Turkey.
