T眉rkiye鈥檚 wind energy sector, currently valued at $2.2 billion, could expand to $7.5-8 billion by 2035 with continued support, according to Ibrahim Erden, president of the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TUREB).
The sector is targeting 5,000 megawatts of wind investment every year in line with T眉rkiye鈥檚 target of 120,000 megawatts of installed capacity in wind and solar energy by 2035, said Erden addressing the 13th Turkish Wind Energy Congress (TWEC 2024), organized by the TUREB with the motto, 'The Energy of the Future, Future of T眉rkiye,' which kicked off on Tuesday in Istanbul.
鈥淭his target will ensure that by 2035, all wind investments to be commissioned in T眉rkiye will total 50,000 megawatts and electricity generated from wind will reach 138 terawatts per year,鈥 he added.
For his part, Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope congratulated to T眉rkiye for its 鈥渙utstanding wind energy supply chain.鈥
According to the latest TUREB data, 150 main suppliers, 350 further sub-suppliers, said
Dickson, adding 鈥淭his is truly impressive.鈥
鈥淭he rest of Europe is extremely grateful to you for it, because most of what your factories are producing is exported to the rest of Europe,鈥 he noted.
鈥淎t the moment, the rest of Europe, that's the whole of Europe, excluding T眉rkiye, is building 18 gigawatts of new wind farms every year,鈥 he added.
鈥淏etween now and 2030, that number is going to rise, on average, we will be building 27 gigawatts of new wind farms every year,鈥 he explained.
鈥淭he market for your factories is growing. And the rest of Europe will be even more hungry for the equipment that you produce in this country,鈥 he said.
