Bangladesh increasedÌýretail gas prices by 26.3Ìýpercent, andÌýpower prices by 3Ìýpercent andÌýaccording to a press briefing on Thursday.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission approved the price hikeÌýand decision was announced by its chairman AR Khan, said the China's national state news agency Xinhua.
In Bangladesh, the retail price of electricity was raised after one year and that of gas after seven years.
"Experts say the markup in these two main utility prices will push up the nation's inflation rate which went up from June's 6.25 percent to 6.36 percent in July due to soaring non food costs," said Xinhua.
Natural gas and solid biomass and waste account for the majority of Bangladesh's total primary energy consumption with the remainder being oil, coal, and hydropower, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.Ìý
