One Turkish kurus price difference in the energy market is important, according to the director of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Energy Markets Summit in Ankara, which is sponsored by The Anadolu Agency and organized by the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority, EMRA, Mustafa Yilmaz said, "EMRA follows not only electricity prices, it also follows fuel oil prices and we know that even one Turkish kurus is important for the market."  Â
Yilmaz said that EMRA, with its 13-year experience in the energy market, is gaining ground on knowledge of consumer rights and this will further be enhanced in the future as the energy market evolves. He also said that Turkey's energy market has greatly developed since 2002.
"For instance, our electricity capacity doubled since 2002 to become 69,500 megawatts capacity. Also, in the same period of time, the private sector invested 60 billion Turkish liras in electricity and developed 30,000 megawatts of electricity capacity. Additionally, natural gas power tripled since 2002 from 17 billion cubic meters capacity to 50 billion," he said, adding that in the past Turkey was using natural gas mainly for electricity production but now 54 percent of it is used for heating and industry.
