Iran reports 5 car bomb explosions in Tehran by Israel

ISTANBUL

Israel detonated five car bombs in the Iranian capital Tehran amid an exchange of attacks between the two regional arch-foes, Iranian media said on Sunday.

The state news agency IRNA, citing an informed source, said the explosions took place after Iranian air defenses successfully repelled the latest wave of Israeli strikes on Iran.

No information, however, was given about casualties or damage from the blasts.

However, an Israeli official, speaking to the public broadcaster KAN, denied the claim, denying any Israeli involvement in the car bombings.

Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, on Friday, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes within hours.

Israeli authorities said that at least 13 people were killed and more than 370 others injured in Iranian missile attacks since Friday.

Iran, for its part, said that 78 people were killed on the first day of the Israeli assault, and scores, including children, were killed on the second.
