ISTANBUL
At least 13 people were killed and over 20 more injured in an airstrike carried out by junta forces on a village in western Myanmar.
A fighter jet bombed the Rakhine state's Tun Yawai village with two 500-lb bombs around 10 am (0330GMT) on Tuesday, according to The Irrawaddy, a news website run by Burmese exiles in Thailand, citing ethnic armed group Arakan Army spokesman Khaing Thukha.
“Twelve houses were completely destroyed. Thirteen bodies have been found, and more than 20 were injured. Other victims are feared still trapped beneath debris, so the number of casualties can increase,” Khaing Thukha said.
On Monday, the media outlet said Myanmar's junta killed at least 23 children and two teachers in a school bombing in the northwestern Sagaing Region.
Earlier this month, the Burmese military junta extended the ceasefire against ethnic rebels until May 31 in an effort to mitigate the impacts of the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar.
