ANKARA

The Indian army said Thursday that it had killed 10 militants in a gun battle with security forces in its northeastern state of Manipur, along the border with Myanmar.

Acting on specific intelligence on troop movement in Manipur’s Chandel District near the border, security forces launched an operation on Wednesday, the army said.

“During the operation, the troops were fired upon by suspected cadres to which they quickly reacted, redeployed and retaliated in a calibrated and measured manner,” the army wrote on X.

In the ensuing firefight, it added that 10 militants were neutralized and a sizable quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered.

“Operation is still in progress,” the army wrote on X.
