China’s close cooperation with Vietnam beneficial for region: Premier Li

ISTANBUL

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang said on Tuesday that Beijing’s close cooperation with Vietnam is beneficial for the region and the world, state-backed Xinhua News reported.

Li Qiang made the comments during a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh in north China's Tianjin municipality for an international annual meeting known as the “Summer Davos.”

Underlining that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral ties between two Asian nations, Li noted that the friendship of "comrades and brothers" has remained firm over time.

Li pointed out the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries in the face of the increased unstable and uncertain factors in the current international situation.

He said that China and Vietnam should enhance strategic communication and cooperation, noting that this is not only beneficial to both sides, but also to the region and the world.

Li also expressed China’s willingness to enhance cooperation in various areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy and green development.

On his part, Pham Minh Chinh stressed Vietnam’s eagerness to work with China to strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, improve strategic communication and promote practical cooperation.

The meeting came after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to Vietnam in April amid growing regional friction and a raging trade war with the US.

China has remained Vietnam’s largest trading partner for over two decades, with bilateral trade volume surpassing $260 billion last year.

Vietnam faces 46% import tariffs from the US administration.

Separately, Li Qiang also met with Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev on Tuesday in Tianjin. During the meeting, both leaders underscored the development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations and pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation.
