KazanForum opens with launch of International Halal Market

KAZAN, Tatarstan

The Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum 2025 kicked off with the opening of the International Kazan Halal Market, bringing together halal producers, traders, and policymakers.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tatarstan’s President Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized the rapid growth of the global halal market and underlined the importance of the Kazan Halal Market for both Russia and Islamic countries.

Noting that Tatarstan is home to over 150 halal food producers, Minnikhanov said the Kazan Halal Market has become a valued tradition.

The market “showcases a wide range of halal products from Russia and other countries and provides a platform for participants to establish business connections,” he added.

Global halal market projected to hit $10T by 2030

Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Mahmut Gurcan said such platforms are key to promoting halal products and strengthening global cooperation in the sector.

Noting that the global halal market is currently worth around $7 trillion and covers various sectors from food and cosmetics to finance and logistics, Gurcan said: “By 2030, it is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.5%, reaching approximately $10 trillion.”

Gurcan highlighted that with nearly 2 billion Muslims around the world, the halal market represents a significant consumer base.

He also pointed to Türkiye’s efforts to promote halal certification, noting the establishment of the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), which has accredited over 2,000 institutions and their products to date.

Highlighting the forum’s role in strengthening economic ties with the Islamic world, Gurcan said Türkiye and Russia aim to raise bilateral trade to $100 billion.

“By the end of 2024, this figure stood at around $53 billion, with $5 billion of that coming from trade with Tatarstan alone,” he added.

“If we can strengthen cooperation in the halal sector, with Tatarstan playing a facilitating role, we believe we can reach our trade targets more easily and unlock new investment opportunities.”

The 16th edition of the forum is being held in Tatarstan’s capital Kazan. Anadolu is the global communications partner of the forum. The event will run through May 18, focusing on strengthening economic and social ties between Russia and the Islamic world.

Last year’s edition drew more than 20,500 participants from 87 countries.
