Ireland-based Ryanair, Europe's largest low-cost airline, posted a decline in profits due to lower fares in the 2025 financial year, according to the airline's financial results on Monday.

Profit after tax fell by 16% year-on-year to €1.61 billion (about $1.8 billion) in the financial year ending in March 2025, down from the previous financial year's €1.92 billion. Ryanair saw a 4% increase in revenue to €13.95 billion during the same period.

The airline announced that it carried 200.2 million passengers during the period in question, a 9% increase over last year's 183.7 million.

Meanwhile, the rise in the total passengers was neutralized by the average fares, which fell 7% year-on-year.

“The key feature of last year's result was the 7% decline in fares, which drove strong traffic growth of 9% to just over 200m," said Ryanair Group's CEO Michael O’Leary.

"Total revenue rose 4% to €13.95bn. Scheduled revenue increased 1% to €9.23bn as traffic (despite repeated Boeing delivery delays) grew 9%," he added.

Ryanair had lowered its previous target of 210 million passengers in January 2025 due to delivery delays at US aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

The company aims to fly 206 million passengers by March 31, 2026.
